Abstract

1,209,564. Floor mats. AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS Ltd. 9 Dec., 1968 [31 Jan., 1968], No. 58439/68. Heading A4S. [Also in Division H1] A floor mat pressure-responsive electric switch comprises electrical contact plates 10, 12 spaced (by spacers 14), matting 18, upper plate 10 including an electrically insulating layer 20 having shared contacts 16 electrically interconnected above insulating layer 20 and plate 10 as a whole being flexible and locally deflectable under pressure applied through matting 18<SP>1</SP> to effect electrical connection with the lower plate 12 through at least one of the contacts 16 and being inherently resilient to recover readily from the deflection upon cessation of the pressure. Plate 10 comprises an electrically insulating layer 20 of a vitreous material such as glass fibre with an electrically conducting layer 22 of copper gauze or net fastened together by the contacts 16 which are formed of copper rivets. Plate 12 is of electrically conducting material such as aluminium. Matting 18 is composed of natural or synthetic rubber. Spacers 14 are of resilient material such as rubber to assist the recovery from deflection or may be of non-resilient material and may be formed as pressings or mouldings in the under-surface of layer 20 or in the upper surface of plate 12. Electrical connections 24 are provided.
