Abstract

1,209,455. Superheaters of steam generators. RICHARDSONS, WESTGARTH & CO. Ltd. 24 Jan., 1968 [1 Feb., 1967], No. 4834/67. Heading F4A. In an arrangement of two superheaters in series for heating steam from a common source to two different temperatures, the higher temperature superheater 13 is situated downstream of the lower temperature superheater 12 both in regard to steam flow and position in the heating gas stream, each superheater having a by-pass 14, 15, for the heating gases controlled independently of valves 16, 17. Steam, e.g. at 472‹ F. enters superheater 12 and leaves at 800‹ F., flowing to the inlet of the second superheater 13 where its temperature is raised to 900‹ F. Some of the steam is tapped off from the connection between the superheaters and, after a temperature reduction in an attemperator 18‹ to 750‹ F. is supplied to a turbine, the 900‹ F. steam being for use in a chemical process. A safety blow-off valve 20 is provided at the downstream end of superheater 13.
