Abstract

1,209,333. Textile print pastes. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 14 March, 1968 [15 March, 1967], No. 12319/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division D1] Aqueous textile print pastes contain a pigment and, as binder, a water-soluble partial or complete ammonium salt of an autocrosslinkable copolymer of (a) 10-40% of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid; (b) 0À5-5% of N- methylolacrylamide, N - methylolmethacrylamide and/or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl ether thereof; (c) 0À05-5% of a comonomer containing two non- conjugated olefinic bonds; (d) 59À45-89À45% of C 1 -C 8 alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid; and (e) 0-10% of at least one other comonomer, the percentages being with reference to the total weight of all the monomer components. Suitable as comonomers (c) are the C 2 -C 6 alkylene diesters or C 1 -C 6 alkylene diamides of acrylic or methacrylic acid, diallyl ethers of C 2 -C 6 alkylene glycols, and diallyl esters of C 2 -C 6 alkylene dicarboxylic acids and of phthalic acids. The optional comonomers (e) include (meth)acrylamide, (meth)acrylonitrile, vinyl esters of C 2 -C 8 alkanoic acids, C 1 -C 4 alkyl vinyl ethers, vinyl or vinylidene chloride, styrene and butadiene. Inorganic and organic pigments of all types are suitable for the print pastes; the use of copper phthalocyanine is exemplified. The pastes may optionally include assistants such as wetting agents, e.g. watersoluble alcohols, conventional binders, e.g. acrylic ester copolymers and crosslinkable aminoplasts, crosslinking catalysts, e.g. dimethyl oxalate and methyl p-toluene sulphonate, organic liquids for forming oil-in-water emulsions, and emulsifiers. In an example the binder used is a partial ammonium salt of an acrylic acid-N-methylolmethacrylamide-butanediol diacrylate-ethyl acrylate copolymer, optionally in conjunction with an ammonium salt of an acrylic acid-butanediol diacrylate copolymer.
