Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a novel sizing agent having excellent printability, etc., by the bulk-terpolymerization of a styrene-type monomer, an unsaturated polybasic acid and an acrylic monomer at specific ratios followed by the block-copolymerization of the polymer with a vinyl monomer in an aqueous alkaline solution.
CONSTITUTION: (a) A styrene-type monomer, (b) an α,β-unsaturated polybasic acid (1W16C alkyl ester) monomer and (c) one or more acrylic monomers selected from (meth)acrylic acid (1W4C alkyl ester), diglycidyl (meth)acrylate and acrylonitrile are bulk terpolymerized at molar ratios (a):(b):(c) of 1W2:0.1W0.9:0.9W 0.1. The polymer is dissolved in an aqueous alkaline solution and block copolymerized with one or more vinyl monomers selected from the component (a), (b), (c), acrylamide and vinyl acetate-type monomers.
EFFECT: Almost free from foaming and free from gum-up in use.
