Abstract
1,209,200. Extruding; forging. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 6 March, 1968 [7 March, 1967], No. 10841/68. Headings B3H and B3P. A metal article is made by first forging a billet 11, Fig. 1, to reduce one end thereof and then shaping the reduced end by hydrostatic extrusion, Fig. 4. Billet 11 may be of soft steel, heated or cold, and is forged within a die 12 by a punch 14 and mandrel 15. The workpiece 11a, possibly after machining or annealing, is then placed against a die 18 in a hydrostatic extrusion chamber where its leading end is extruded at 20 between the die and a mandrel 17 carried by an apertured spacer 16. Thereafter the workpiece may be flattened by drawing or rolling. The hydraulic fluid is pressurized by a punch 19. After the forging and/or the extrusion, the workpiece may be annealed in a protective atmosphere.
