Abstract

1,208,562. Liquid dispensing apparatus; mixing flowing liquids in proportions. AVERY-HARDOLL Ltd. and BECK & CO. (METERS) Ltd. 5 July, 1967 [5 April, 1966], No. 15165/68. Heading A4T. [Also in Division B1] A mixed fuel dispenser has a pressure regulator 24 upstream or downstream of the proportioning control means 14. Pumps 2, 4 force high and low octane fuels through volume meters 10, 12, the shaft outputs from which are added at differential 48 and fed to a variator 50 driving a total volume indicator 56, and via an adding differential 74, a volume multiplied by a unit price indicator 78. The flows from the meters 10, 12 pass through rotary variable displacement meters or pumps 16, 18 forming the proportioning device and through the valves 30, 32 of the pressure regulator to the nozzle 28. The proportioning device is adjusted at 84 via a worm gear on the common meter shaft 20, the adjustment via 96 rotating endless belt 102 carrying gears 60, 68 adjustably meshing with concentric tracks on gears 58, 66 driven from the volume meters 10, 12. The shaft outputs from gears 60, 68 are added by differential 72 to produce a positive or negative increment according to the mixture of fuels which is fed to adding differential 74 whereby the total cost is registered on indicator 78. To prevent leakage around the vanes 22 of meters 16, 18 the pressure differences thereacross are minimised by e.g. a high back pressure at 40 and a low pressure at 42 acting on diaphragm 36 to allow a spring to close valve 30 and open valve 32 loose on diaphragm shaft 34 if the regulator is downstream of the meters 16, 18 or vice versa if upstream. The meters 16, 18 may be omitted in which case the main meters 10, 12 effect the proportioning of the fuels.
