Abstract

1,208,451. Fluorinated alkylaryl compounds. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 24 May, 1968 [24 May, 1967], No. 24079/67. Addition to 1,156,912. Heading C2C. A process for the manufacture of a fluorinated organic compound having a fluorinated alkyl group directly connected to at least one aromatic group which is a condensed aromatic group or a benzene group having at least two other substituent groups attached thereto, comprises reacting a compound containing an aromatic nucleus which has a reactive halogeno substituent (iodine, bromine or chlorine) and which is a condensed aromatic nucleus or a benzene nucleus having at least two other substituent groups attached thereto, a fluorinated alkane having at least one reactive halogeno-substituent, and metallic copper in a dipolar aprotic solvent at between 90‹ and 200‹ C. and separating out the resulting fluorinated organic compound formed. Using this process 1,3-bis- [3,4 - di - (methoxycarbonyl) - phenyl] - hexa. fluoropropane, hexafluoro - 4 - (α - naphthyl)- butyric acid and 1,7-bis-(3,4-dicarbomethoxyphenyl) tetradecafluoroheptane, are prepared in the examples.
