Abstract

1,219,633. Nitramino-pyridines. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. 13 Jan., 1969 [29 Jan., 1968], No. 4546/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] Novel nitraminopyridines of Formula I in which R is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is chlorine, bromine, C 1-6 alkyl or nitro and R<SP>3</SP> is chlorine, bromine or nitro but different from R<SP>2</SP>, and N-oxides and salts thereof, are prepared by reacting the corresponding aminopyridine with fuming nitric acid in the presence of sulphuric acid at a temperature below 15‹ C. When it is desired to substitute an -NO 2 group in the ring also, the reaction may comprise a second stage in which the temperature is raised to 60‹ to 100‹ C.
