Abstract

1443450 Dibenzothiophene derivatives OCEVAN DER GRINTEN NV 14 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 28918/74 Divided out of 1443449 Heading C2C Novel dibenzothiophene derivatives having the general formula wherein R and R<SP>111</SP> are hydrogen or nitro; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are bromine, nitro or cyano and p<SP>11</SP> is zero or one, provided that R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> cannot both be nitro when R and R<SP>111</SP> are both hydrogen, are prepared by oxidizing dibenzothiophene with a mixture of sulphuric acid and dichromate, and optionally nitrating the product. The novel compounds are useful as electron acceptors.
