Abstract
1,208,165. Unsaturated glycidyl esters. NIPPON YUSHI K.K. 5 Jan., 1968 [7 Jan., 1967], No. 912/68. Heading C2C. A method of producing unsaturated organic acid glycidyl esters is characterized in that a soap of an unsaturated organic acid and epichlorohydrin are reacted in the presence of a catalyst and an aromatic or cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent in the proportion of ¢ to 6 times by weight of the amount of the soap of the unsaturated organic acid employed and after the reaction water is added at the rate of 100 to 600 gm. of water based on one mole of the soap of unsaturated acid and the resulting aqueous phase is removed and then the resulting organic phase is distilled to obtain the desired ester. Catalysts specified include quaternary ammonium salts, tertiary amines and tertiary amine hydrochloric acid salts. Hydrocarbon solvents specified are benzene, toluene, xylene, cyclohexane and cyclohexene. Polymerization inhibitors may be added to the reaction mixture. The examples describe the preparation of glycidyl acrylate and methacrylate.
