Abstract

1,207,979. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Dec.29, 1967 [Jan. 2, 1967], No.59016/67. Heading G3P. An hydraulic regulator, e.g. a governor for an I.C. engine comprises a piston type accumulator 8 having a spring 22 to bias the piston towards a stop 21 which determines its rest position, element 1 providing a source of liquid under pressure in the cylinder 5 and reciprocated by an engine driven cam (not shown) in accordance with engine speed, a spring-loaded adjusting piston 18 connected to a regulating rod of a fuel injection pump, the element 1 periodically connecting a chamber 9 of the accumulator 8 first to the chamber 5 during the pressure stroke via a passageway 10 and a check valve 11, and also a passageway 4, 3, 12, to stress the spring 22, next to chamber 5 during the suction stroke via the passageway 12 and adjustable throttle 13, and then to the adjuster cylinder 15 via a passageway 16. In the figure the control element is shown in the bottom dead centre position and liquid is supplied from a reservoir 7 to the chamber 5. Upward movement of the element 1 displaces the piston 8 upwards. During the return of the element 1, piston 8 is moved towards a stop 21 until the passage 12 is closed. As long as the speed of the control element does not exceed a predetermined value, set by the throttle 13 which retards return movement of the piston 8, the piston 8 returns to its position of rest before the chamber 9 is connected to the chamber 15 via passageways 16 and 17. Since there is no pressure differential the piston 18 remains at rest. If the speed increases the piston 8 is not able to reach the stop 21 before the passage 12 is closed and the passageway 17 is opened, and the liquid under pressure chamber 9 flows to the chamber 15 to move the piston 18 to reduce the fuel supply to the injection pump. The upward movement of the piston 8 is limited by relief passages 23 and 24. If the speed drops quickly a passage 26 causes accelerated emptying of the chamber 9 and consequently accelerated movement of the piston 18 to increase the fuel quantity. The diameters of the pistons 8 and 18 and the force of their springs are selected so that the pressure required to lift the piston 8 is greater than, or equal to, that required to lift the piston 18. The stops 20 and 21 may be made adjustable. A throttle 25 may be disposed in the passageway 17. The passage 12 may return to the reservoir which is at a low-pressure.
