Abstract
120,783. Comyn, B. D. Nov. 27, 1917. Internal-grip wrenches. - An internal-grip wrench particularly for screwing the plugs of shell bodies, comprises a spindle formed with one or more eccentric cylindrical parts located between concentric cylindrical parts of the spindle and on which is mounted one or more rotatable eccentric sleeves so that by inserting the tool in the cavity of the plug &c. and turning the spindle while holding the sleeve, the walls of the cavity are gripped by the tool. As shown, the spindle, Fig. 1, is formed with an eccentric part 13 located between concentric parts 10, 12 and with a squared end 11 adapted to be engaged by a turning device. An eccentric sleeve 14, Fig. 4, is loosely mounted on the part 13 and may be retained thereon by a pin-and-slot connexion, or may be slit longitudinally. In use, the sleeve 14 is placed as shown in Fig. 1, so that its outer periphery is concentric with the parts 10, 12 and the tool is inserted in the cavity of the shell plug so that the part 10 engages the reduced part of the cavity and the sleeve is partly located in the mouth of the cavity. The sleeve is then held while the spindle is turned so that the parts assume a position such as shown in Fig. 4, the sleeve 14 and part 10 gripping opposite sides of the cavity.
