Abstract
1,207,584. Clamps. RAYCHEM CORP. 7 June, 1968 [7 June. 1967], No. 27320/68. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] An assembly for connecting a branch pipe to a main comprises a pair of saddle-shaped parts which interfit in an axial direction to embrace the main pipe. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the two components are generally similar except that one, 11, is bored to receive a standard Tee 15 at thread 16, while the other, 12, is tapped to receive set screws 13, 14. Axially projecting lugs 22 (and 23, not visible) and 36, 37 on the two elements overlie each other to receive the screw-pressure, the ends of the set-screw pressing in holes 29 in part 11. On assembly, the two parts provide a uniform outer profile which is easily corrosionprotected. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the two parts are slightly different from each other in that one part, 50, has a pair of tongues 56 (and 57, not visible) which enter recesses 67, 68 in the other part 51. These tongues are engaged by screws 71, 72, as before. The Tee is preferably of the sort, Fig. 3, that includes a punch 17 for making a hole 18 in the pipe 10 and then controlling the flow of fluid so tapped. Instead of being separate, as shown, the Tee could be cast integrally with the unit. The Tee is sealed by an O-ring 19 lying in a groove 27. The pipe may be of cast iron, brass or plastic.
