The rupture limit and yield point (or the rupture limit and the 0À2% proof stress in a steel without a distinct yield point) of a steel ring is increased, without a corresponding change in such properties as elongation, contraction, and impact value, by heating the ring to a temperature between 100‹ and 500‹ C., and reducing the cross-section of the ring by up to 70% in a ring rolling mill.
