Abstract

Apparatus for the selective display of any one of a plurality of requential data signals in a system comprising a multi-conductor trunk line and a data utilization mean responsive to timing signals for switching on to the trunk lines sets of signal digitally representing chargeable number, characterized by an indicator device responsive to digital signals for displaying the represented numbers and a gate means responsive to an enabling signal, from a selector means synchronized with a desired timing signal, for supplying to the indicator device the digital signals then existing on the trunk line. As shown, a numerical control system 11 includes, data sources and utilization devices 13, an adder 15 for carrying out arithmetic operations, which is connected to the devices 13 by adder input and output multi-conductor trunklines 17, 19, and gates 23, which determine the time sequential processing of data between devices 13 and the adder 15 in response to cyclically changing signals from a timing generator 21. The devices 13 comprise servo-loops for moving elements of a machine in response to signal, a source of digital command signals, derived from punched or magnetic tape and representing desired distances and velocities of the elements, and sources of digital signals, indicating the actual positions and velocities of the machine elements, which are compared with the digital command signals to produce the signals for controlling the servo-loops. A servicing read-out unit 27 is provided with a unit 29, for displaying data generated by the data sources or received by the utilization devices of unit 13, which is connected to the AIT, AOT trunks 17, 19 through gates 26, 28. The gates 26, 28 are gated by signals on timing lines 31 which are derived from the sequential timing signals from generator 21 and synchronized with selected ones of the gating signals from decoder or programme gates 23 by fixed programme gates 33. A switching selector 35 is settable by an operator to render the gates 26, 28 responsive to the gating signals on any line 31 and enables a desired signal on the AOT, AIT trunks to be displayed during at any time within the sequence. The gating pulses to the gates 26, 28 are passed through gates 37, 39 which allow the enabling of gates 26, 38 by time signals from the line 35, selected by a serviceman's selector switches 45, programme gate 43 and AIT/AOT selector 47 which permit increased flexibility in the range of signals displayed on unit 29. The serving system can be extended by the provision of a plurality of read-out units such as unit 53.
