Abstract
1,118,393. Data acquisition systems. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 15 Feb., 1967 [1 March, 1966], No. 7163/67. Heading G4H. In a data acquisition system, input data from a plurality of lines is scanned, the starting point of the scan and the number of lines to be scanned being determined by which one of a plurality of lines 17 (Fig. 3a) is selected. In the event of the second terminal being selected an AND gate 104 is enabled when a programme counter 9 reaches a count of 2 and a signal transmitted on the appropriate one of leads 159 to programme counter control OUT 106 (Fig. 3b). Terminal 2 of programme counter control OUT 106 is connected by leads 121 to the third and fifth terminals of sequence counter IN 107 (see Fig. 2) so that when the AND gates 114 connected to the third lead of cable 161 is enabled, that is when the sequence counter 14 reaches a count of 3, a pulse is transmitted to the third terminal of start address OUT 108 and scan size OUT 109 and a control signal on lead 167 stops the sequence counter. The third terminal of start address OUT 108 is connected to terminals 100 and 2 (see Fig. 2) of start address IN so that after decoding a scan is initiated at terminal 102, this address being fed into address register 6 via lead 171, the scan terminating at 132 since the third scan size IN terminal 3 is connected to scan size OUT terminal 30 indicating that thirty of the data inputs should be scanned. When this has been completed the sequence counter advances to a count of 5 when a further AND gate 114 is enabled to initiate in a similar manner a scan commencing at 36 (since the fifth terminal of start address OUT is connected to terminals 30 and 6 of start address IN and terminating at 100 since the fifth terminal of scan size out 109 is connected to terminals 60 and 4 of scan size IN. When this is terminated the programme counter 9 continues cycling. Means are included for priority programmes to be dealt with first.
