Abstract

1,204,991. Production of iron containing powder. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 28, 1969 [March 5, 1968], No. 10765/69. Heading C7D. Metallic powder, consisting at least predominantly of iron with optional addition of Ni, Co or both, for use in magnetic recording devices, is produced by the gaseous reduction of metal oxide, hydroxide or both at a temperature not exceeding 300‹C. with a reducing gas pressure of at least 10 atmospheres. The process is preferably carried out in the presence of a water-binding agent (e.g. CaO or P2O5). In examples the reducing gas is hydrogen.
