Abstract
1,204,964. Photographic silver halide colour development. ILFORD Ltd. April 1, 1969 [April 16, 1968], No.17907/68. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C2] A process of colour development of colour photographic material wherein at least one silver halide emulsion layer containing a developable silver halide is colour developed to yield a dye image, the developed silver and the residual silver halide being removed, comprises developing the photographic material with a colour developing solution in the presence of an image-forming colour coupler and as a competing coupler an indazolone compound of the formula where at least one of the symbols R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 represents a water-solubilizing group (e.g. -COOH, -SO 3 H, -CH 2 COOH and CH 2 SO 3 H) and the remainder represent hydrogen or substituent groups, the indazolone compound (e.g. where R 1 is COOH and R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen) being one which will couple with the oxidized developing agent to form a dye having no affinity for gelatine and which will wash out of the film into the developing solution or a subseauent processing bath. The indazolone compound is preferably present in the colour developing solution at a concentration of 0À5 to 5g. per litre. The compounds 5-chloroindazolone-4-carboxylic acid and indazolone-5- carboxylic acid are disclosed.
