Abstract
1,204,956. Local electro-deposition of metals. SIEMENS A. G. April 17, 1968 [April 22, 1967], No. 18197/68. Heading C7B. In a process for the local electrolytic depositon of a metal, e.g. gold, on a metal workpiece, the workpiece is supported by a float floating in an electrolyte such that the workpiece is partially immersed in the electrolyte, the workpiece being connected to the negative pole of a direct current source, the opposite pole of which is connected to an anode disposed in the electrolyte. The workpiece may be submerged in the electrolyte to varying depths during successive time intervals, e.g. by varying the bouyancy of the float support structure or by moving the workpiece relative to the float. In the form shown a float structure 4 supports hundreds of plug strips 5 which project from either side of moulded parts 6 of synthetic plastics material. Counter-electrode 2 is positioned in the lower part of the electrolyte container 1. Inversion of the float structure 4 enables the opposite ends of the plug strips to be plated.
