Abstract

1,204,840. Quinol complexes; Vitamin E. F. HOFFMAN-LA ROCHE & CO. A.G. 26 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968; 19 Nov., 1968], No. 10321/69. Headings C2C and C2V. The invention comprises complexes of the formula where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are H or CH 3 and MX 3 is BF 3 or AlCl 3 . The complexes are prepared by reacting BF 3 or AlCl 3 with the appropriate hydroquinone in the presence of an organic solvent containing a nucleophilic group having a lower electron donating capacity then phenol. The complexes may be reacted with compounds of the formula n is 0-9 and B is a hydroxy, halogen or a leaving group, to form compounds of the formula Vitamin E may be produced by this method.
