Abstract

1310802 Phosphorus - containing polyols KNAPSACK AG 28 May 1971 [23 July 1970] 17912/71 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] Phosphorus-containing polyols of the formula wherein a is 0 or 1 provided that it must be 1 at least once in the molecule, n is 0 to 4, R 1 at least once is a halogenated hydrocarbon and at least twice is a hydroxyl-containing radical of the formula -(CHR 3 -CHR 4 -O) m -H and R 2 is a radical of the formula -(O-CHR 3 -CHR 4 ) m -, R 3 and R 4 representing a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 optionally halogen-substituted hydrocarbon radical and m is 1 to 10, may be prepared by reacting a halogenated alcohol or phenol with P 2 O 5 and/or polyphosphoric acid, followed by reaction of the resulting product with an epoxide or by reacting a halogenated phosphite or phosphate with polyphosphoric acid or a mixture thereof with P 2 O 5 , followed by reaction of the resulting product with an epoxide. In examples, polyols are produced by reacting (1) tris - 2 - chloroethyl phosphate with a mixture of P 2 O 5 and polyphosphoric acid followed by reaction of the product with ethylene oxide, (2) tris-2-chloroethyl phosphite and polyphosphoric acid followed by reaction of the product with ethylene oxide, (3) 2-chlorethanol and P 2 O 5 followed by reaction of the product with ethylene oxide, and (4) tris-2-chloroethyl phosphate and a mixture of polyphosphoric acid and P 2 O 5 , followed by reaction of the product with propylene oxide. The polyols may be used in the preparation of polyurethanes (see Division C3).
