Abstract

1,204,603. Polysiloxane and polyether lubricants. ETHYL CORP. 26 March, 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 14532/68. Headings C3R and C3T. [Also in Division C5] Lubricants comprise (1) a base oil which may be a polysiloxane, a silicate ester, a silane or a polyalkylene oxide derivative of an alcohol or phenol and (2) an additive composition comprising 1-99 wt. per cent of a thiosulphate and 99-1 wt. per cent of a lead compound. Exemplified base oils are diemthylpolysiloxane, phenylmethylpolysiloxane, monoethyldiethoxy monoacetoxysilane, tribenzyl-n-hexadecylsilane the reaction product of lauryl alcohol with ethylene oxide having a mol. wt. of 2000, the reaction product of p-isooctylphenol with propylene oxide having a mol. wt. of 2500 and a tetrahydrofuran/ethylene oxide copolymer. The thiosulphate compound may be organic or inorganic and may be a Li, Na, K, Ca, Ba, Sr, Mg, Cd, Zn, Ni, Co, Fe, Mn, Zr, Cu, Al, Pb, Sn, Ag, Hg, Ge or quaternary ammonium thiosulphate. The lead compound may be lead naphthenate, imidazole, isodecyl or n-octyl xanthogenate, oleate, stearate, sulphide, carbonate, oxide or tetraalkyl.
