Abstract
1,203,987. Explosive compositions. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 11 Dec., 1967 [13 Dec., 1966], No. 56289/67. Heading ClD. A pulverous hydrophobic explosive composition containing a water-soluble explosive and 3-20% by weight of a liquid nitric acid ester, also contains 0À001-1% by weight, based on the water-soluble explosive, of a wetting agent which enables the nitric acid ester to wet the water-soluble explosive. The wetting agent contains a radical soluble in the nitric acid ester, for example oxazolinyl, benzoyl acetonyl, naphthyl, naphthyloxy, benzeneazo, or phenyl, and a radical which adheres to the water-soluble constituent, for example a paraffin radical optionally substituted by NO 2 , halogen or metals. The wetting agent, or one component thereof, is applied to at least part of the watersoluble explosive constituent before mixing with the liquid nitric acid ester, which may be nitroglycerine, nitroglycol or diethylene glycol dinitrate. Preferably the wetting agent prevents deflagration, thus providing greater safety with respect to firedamp. In examples the watersoluble explosive is ammonium nitrate or a mixture of ammonium chloride and potassium nitrate, the nitric acid ester is a mixture of nitroglycerine and nitroglycol, and the wetting agent is (a) a mixture of α,# - bis - (2 - phenyl - 4 - methyl - 4 - oxazolinyl) - dotriacontane and α - (2 - phenyl - 4 - methyl - 4 - oxazolinyl) - tetratriacontane); (b) as in (a) with the addition of a mixture of linseed oil fatty amines; (c) the copper salt of benzoylacetone; (d) the copper salt of benzeneazonaphthol; (e) sodium benzene sulphonate; (f) sodium benzoate. Other ingredients are aluminium hydroxide, collodion wool, silicic acid, galactomannan, wood flour, acetone, dinitrotoluene, TNT, and colouring constituents.
