Abstract

[Also in Division C1] A flash-bulb adapted to be percussively ignited comprises a primer cup containing a charge of fulminating material which includes a non-explosive water-soluble binder and is introduced into the cup in a wet state. The binder is preferably hydroxyethyl cellulose which forms between 0À2% and 2À0% by weight of the dry composition, and the charge also includes potassuim chlorate and red phosphorus in a weight ratio between 0À5 and 2À5 and powdered zirconium in an amount between 1 and 5 times the combined weight of the potassium chlorate and phosphorus. The charge may also include up to 50% of powdered abrasive such as aluminium oxide.
