Abstract

1,204,974. Flash-bulbs. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. Nov.22, 1968, [Nov.24, 1967], No.55604/68. Heading G2L. [Also in Division C1] Fulminating material for use as the priming charge in a percussively ignitable flash-bulb is inserted into the bulb in the form of a suspension which has been rendered thixotropic by the addition of a thixotropic inorganic clay such as magnesium montmorillonite. The clay preferably comprises between 0À1% and 4À0% by weight of the dry material, and a preferred material has the following composition by weight:- zirconium 33À33% red phosphorus 13À34% potassium chlorate 13À34% hydroxyethyl cellulose 0À30% magnesium montmorillonite 0À18% aluminium oxide abrasive 39À39% sufficient water being added to give the required viscosity. The water may be replaced by amyl acetate and the hydroxyethyl cellulose by cellulose nitrate.
