Abstract

1,203,789. Electro-phoretic coating apparatus. SIEMENS A. G. Nov. 9, 1967, No. 51049/67. Heading C7B. In an electro-phoretic lacquering bath comprising a conductor bar 9 on which current collectors 6 slide for supplying current to workpieces 4 as they travel through the bath, the conductor bar 9 is subdivided into individual sections along the direction of travel of the workpieces, each section having associated therewith a regulating unit, 11, 12, 13, or 14, supplied from a common voltage source 24 and provided with its own current or voltage controller, 16, 16<1> respectively. In the form shown current is supplied via transformer 19. Preferably the controller means 16, 16<1> are such that the end conductor bar sections 9 are maintained at constant voltage whilst the intermediate sections are provided with constant current, Counter-electrodes are provided by the bath wall 2 and auxilliary counter-electrodes 5 suspended within the workpieces 4. Means 17 is associated with each controller means 16, 16<1> whereby adjacent regulating units may be rendered inoperative during passage of a workpiece between the conductor sections associated therewith. The regulating units 11-14 may be formed by semicontrolled three-phase rectifyer bridge arrangements comprising thyristors 22 and rectifiers 23.
