Abstract

1422316 Heat-treating steel wire DECEMBER 4 DROTMUVEK 16 April 1974 [20 April 1973] 16673/74 Heading C7N Steel wire is patented by passing it along a linear path in a horizontal plane through two successive salt baths between which a voltage is applied, the first constituting a pre-heating and the second a patenting tank. In the form of apparatus described parallel wires pass through pre-heating tank 3 and patenting tank 9, each comprising an upper container 3'', 9" and a lower reservoir 3', 9', molten salt being circulated from the latter to the former by pumps 6. The end walls of the containers have notches through which the wires are led and through which the bath overflows. One or both of the tank assemblies may be subdivided into three electrically insulated parallel sections for separate connection to the three phases of a power supply, while the wire may be maintained under such tension during treatment that it is elongated.
