Abstract

1,203,573. Releasable fastenings. WILMOTBREEDEN Ltd. 11 Aug., 1967 [17 Aug., 1966], No. 36761]66. Heading E2A. A bolt 6 urged by a spring 22 into the fastening position is withdrawable by a handlever 5 accessible through an aperture 8 in a plate 1 on which it is pivoted. The fastening is particularly for use in securing the pivoted rear seat 4 of an estate car in its upright position, and, to permit vertical movement between the seat, to which a keeper 7 is secured, and the frame, to which the plate 1 is secured, the keeper 7 has a vertically elongated space for receiving the end of the bolt 6. As shown, the hand-lever 5 is urged to the position shown by a torsion spring 12 and is formed with a gear sector 27 which meshes with a gear sector 29 of a lever 30 pivoted on a flange 16 extending perpendicularly from the plate 1, the lever 30 being connected to the bolt by a link 32. The lever 30 and the link 32 have a toggle action and move to an overcentre position as the bolt is fully withdrawn so that it remains in that position against the action of its spring. In another embodiment, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the lever 30 is replaced by an arm (39) in a shaft extending parallel to the plane of the plate 1 with a handle projecting radially from it into the aperture 8. In a further embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the handle is arranged as in the last embodiment but the arm (39) in the end of the handle shaft is connected to the bolt by a bell-crank lever (44). A spring (47) carried by the bell crank lever acts on the arm (39) to restore the handle.
