Abstract

1,203,203. Grinding. METABOWERKE K.G. CLOSS, RAUCH & SCHNIZLER. 7 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968; 9 Jan., 1969], No. 6687/69. Heading B3D. An orbiting grinder comprises a grinding plate 1 consisting of an upper part 10 and an under part 11, mounted on an eccentric shaft 4 connected with a motor drive shaft 3, a counterweight 23 fitted on the eccentric shaft between the parts, and elastic retaining members 39 connecting the grinding plate to a housing part 5. A motor 2 is disposed within the housing part 5 and is controlled by a switch 7 on a handle 6. The motor shaft 3 has a tapered connection 8 with the shaft 4 which is located by a bearing 32 in a closure part 34 of the housing part 5 and has an eccentric portion 14 carrying bearings 12, 13 for the upper and lower parts 10, 11. The part 10 is cup-shaped to accommodate the counterweight 23 fitted between the parts, and the part 11 is formed by a metal plate 19 and rubber pad 20. The upper part 10 and closure part 34 are formed with tapered depressions 37, 38 receiving the elastic retaining members 39 which permit orbiting of the grinding plate but prevent rotation thereof. Bending of the members 39 is prevented in the direction of rotation and in use by a nose 40 on the upper part and a nose 41 on the closure part 34 extending into recesses in the closure parts and upper part respectively. Excessive rotation in the opposite direction is prevented by ribs 43.
