Abstract
1,202,936. Heating or cooling liquids; liquid heaters. MUREX Ltd. 20 June, 1968 [25 Sept., 19671, No. 43437/67. Headings F4A and F4S. In a vessel for heating or cooling corrosive liquids in which a heat transfer unit 12 forms part of the vessel wall and is joined to upper and lower parts 10 and 11 of the vessel by bolting together flanges 15 and 19, the inner wall 17 of the unit 12 has a layer 23 of corrosion resistant metal such as tantalum, zirconium, titanium, niobium or an alloy thereof, and the remaining parts 10 and 11 of the vessel have a layer 14 of non-metallic corrosion resistant material such as glass, rubber, plastic, ceramic or porcelain. The surface of layer 23 may be finned, grooved, ribbed or dimpled. Heating or cooling fluid enters and leaves the unit 12 through ports 21 and 22 respectively. In a modified unit (120, Fig. 2, not shown) the fluid flows through a sinuous pipe mounted on a wall (117). Alternatively the heat transfer unit may be provided with an electrical heater or be adapted to be heated by gas burners.
