A composition for application to a copper or copper alloy surface containing as corrosion or tarnish inhibitor a compound of formula I or formula II wherein R represents a saturated alkylene C 4-20 radical or a phenyl radical optionally substituted by alkyl radicals and bonded to the pyrazole ring in the meta or para position and X represents an alkylene C 3-11 radical stated to be novel together with an inert solvent such as water, methanol, ethanol, a mineral oil or grease, ethylene glycol or other alkylene glycol, polyethylene glycol or other polyalkylene glycol is applied by spraying or padding on to the surface to be treated.
