Abstract

1,202,371. Sheet forming. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 24 April, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20167/67. Heading B5A. A hollow article having an undercut recess, such as an egg-box lid, is formed from a sheet of foamed polystyrene between co-operating male and female moulds, the former of which is provided with a recess and the latter with a corresponding projection. The projection as shown in Fig. 6, is carried by a wall 22 which is slidable upwardly and outwardly relative to the rest of the mould and which is biased in its uppermost position by a spring 23 and the recess, as shown in Fig. 3, is provided with a pivotable base portion 19. In operation, after the article has been formed, the male mould is withdrawn, the portion 19 pivoting downwardly to facilitate the withdrawal. During the withdrawal the wall 22 is slid by the spring to its uppermost position so that after complete withdrawal and removal of the male mould the formed article may be lifted from the female mould.
