Abstract
1,201,888. Swaging. FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. GES. FUR. 21 April, 1969 [3 May, 1968], No. 20162/69. Heading B3H. A continuous swaging apparatus comprises at least two swaging units A, B which each have dies 1 moved radially by eccentric shafts 2 parallel to the workpiece axis and slidable in guides 11 rotatable about axes transverse to the workpiece axis. The dies 1 each have a forked rear part 12 which receives a plunger 13 with a threaded end 15. A nut 16 on the end 15 is rotated by linkage 18, 19 connected to a chuck 20 on an eccentric 22 on each shaft 2. The rotation of the shafts 2 causes the dies to move radially relative to the workpiece and the plungers to reciprocate to oscillate the dies. Each chuck 20 is pivoted to a ring 23 rotatable about the workpiece axis to change the range of oscillation. The swaging units are driven from a common transmission C comprising spur gears (3), (4), Fig. 4 (not shown). The eccentrics 8 on the shafts 2 of each unit are arranged to drive six dies such that alternate dies are retracting and advancing. One shaft of each set driving three dies is mounted in a rotatable housing 24, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the housing is held against rotation by an hydraulic pistoncylinder assembly (25), (26). The swaging pressure can be sensed by the assembly and an alarm signal given upon overload. Further the assemblies (25), (26) can be used to retract the dies if the unit jams. A stop (28) determines the position of the housing 24. Adjustment of the stop (28) by worms (29) changes the stroke position of one of the dies of each set so that the workpiece axis is displaced slightly upon adjustment.
