Abstract

1,169,261. Gear-grinding. INSTITUT FUR WERKZEUGMASCHINEN. 4 April, 1967, No. 15336/67. Heading B3K. In a machine for grinding helical gears, the stroke position of the reciprocating wheel 6 is modified in dependence on the rotational or translational component of the generating movement. The rack-toothed wheel 6 is reciprocated by a fluid pressure ram 101 mounted on an angularlyadjustable head 3, the fluid being supplied by an infinitely-variable-speed, reversible pump 13. The gear Z is carried on a rotatable table 9 on a saddle 8. As the saddle is moved laterally in the generating movement, its position is gauged by a digital device 151, 152. An analogue voltage is fed to a computer 18 together with an analogue voltage from a device 161, 162 which gauges the position of the grinding head 4. Potentiometers 181, 182, 183 are employed to set in the stroke length of the wheel 6, and the tooth width and the helix angle of the gear. The computer calculates the upper reversal point of the head 4 according to the position of the saddle 8. The lower reversal points are determined by the stroke length. Control is exercised through an electro-hydraulic system 22 and the pump 13. In a modification, the head 4 is reciprocated pneumatically under the control of electromagnetically actuated reversing valves. The position of the stroke path of the wheel is gauged by fixed dogs 29, 31, Fig. 5, co-operating with a switch 31 adjusted by a screw 33. The position of the saddle 8 is indicated by a feeler 36 engaging an adjustably inclined bar 37. In another modification, an hydraulic pump is reversed under the control of a timer and an hydraulic proportioning device adjusts the position of the stroke path of the ram piston within its cylinder. In a further modification, the head is reciprocated by a crank mechanism, the point of attachment of which to the ram is adjusted by a screwed shaft according to the angular position of the work. One component of the generating motion may be effected by the wheel.
