Abstract

1,201,562. Rail vehicle draw gear. MIDLAND-ROSS CORP. 4 Jan., 1968 [4 Jan., 1967], No. 687/68. Heading B7T. Railway car combined buff and draft gear comprises a casing 7 having a front barrel 6 containing a friction clutch assembly, and a rectangular spring compartment 8, the springing 11 consisting of bonded rubber and metal plates extending between a front seat 17 and a rear follower plate 9, the side 18, 19 of the compartment 8 extending more rearwardly than sides 21, 21 and being formed with flanges 23, 24 which limit the rearward movement of the plate 9, by contact with plate flanges 37, 38. Forward movement of plate 9 is limited by the width of grooves 28, 29 in compartment sides 18, 19 and in the forwardmost position of the plate its front portion is forward of the end surfaces 25, 26 of compartment sides 21, 22. The plate is assembled in the gear by first compressing the springing and then sliding it in. It is prevented from being removed by welding to the front faces of flanges 33, 34, keys 54, 55.
