Abstract

1,201,407. Polymer compositions. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 29 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 56852/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B3] Compositions comprise (A) 1 to 50 weight per cent of a polymer of an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon having a melt index below 1000 and (B) 50 to 99 weight per cent of an at least 60% hydrolysed ethylene/vinyl ester copolymer which contained before hydrolysis 5 to 25 mole per cent of vinyl ester units and 75 to 95 mole per cent of ethylene units. Specified polymers (A) are polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutenes, polyvinyl aromatic hydrocarbons, polyterpenes and ethylene/propylene, ethylene/ butene, ethylene/2-methylbutene- 1, ethylene/ hexene, ethylene/n-octene copolymers, olefin copolymer rubbers containing butadiene and 1,4-hexadiene units, acrylonitrile/styrene and butadiene/styrene copolymers. (B) may be derived from vinyl acetate, formate, propion - ate, butyrate, stearate, benzoate or cyclohexanoate. The compositions may comprise waxes, tackifiers; plasticizers and stabilizers and may be used for bonding metals, polymer films, leather and cellulosic materials. Examples describe compositions of hydrolysed ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymers and linear and branched polyethylene, isotactic and amorphous polypropylene, ethylene/propylene, ethylene/ butene, ethylene/n-octene and ethylene/propylene/1,4-hexadiene copolymers, polystyrene and alicyclic hydrocarbon resin.
