Abstract

Mandrels.-The sections b of an expanding mandrel are moved longitudinally by a nut c with an overhanging flanged portion c<1> engaging an external neck portion b' on the sections. These sections may be driven by keys e, or by studs working in slots, or by balls, rollers, or pawls working in recesses in the mandrel a, as shown in Fig. 6. A helical spring d in a circumferential groove keeps the sections b on the mandrel a. The mandrel may have centres a', or may be held in a chuck.
