Abstract

1,201,301. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. F. BALL & CO. Ltd., and F. C. BALL. 5 Oct., 1967 [6 July, 1966], No. 30311/66. Heading B5K. A joint is formed in a synthetic resin-backed carpet, underlay, rug or mat by securing a coarse cloth tape, e.g. a hessian tape, to the carpet at the location of the joint, the tape having a synthetic resin film bonded to it and being secured by a solvent type -adhesive. The synthetic resin film may be high or low density polyethylene, polypropylene, an ethylene-vinylacetate polymer or polyvinyl chloride. A suitable adhesive comprises a natural or synthetic rubber, e.g. neoprene, or a synthetic resin and an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, a simple ester, a ketone or a non-inflammable solvent for the rubber or resin. The synthetic resinbacking of the carpet is an acrylic resin.
