Abstract

[Also in Divisions H1 and H2] The temperature at or of an article being treated at an inaccessible point is measured by one or more thermocouples attached to a shuttle movable by a fluid conveyer system comprising a tube the tube and shuttle carrying contacts which automatically engage when the shuttle reaches the inaccessible point to correct the couple to a remote indicator. As illustrated in Fig. 2, the thermocouple 7 measures the temperature of a specimen being irradiated in a nuclear reactor, the shuttle consisting of a specimen tube with an insulating terminal portion carrying two frustro-conical rings 9 which engage mating ring 10 on the tube 11 as shown. The shuttle is brought to the measuring position by fluid flow in the direction indicated by the arrows and withdrawn by reversing the flow. Further sets of contacts are provided when a plurality of thermocouples are carried by the shuttle.
