Abstract

1,200,141. Devices for engaging and lifting articles. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 22 May, 1969 [28 May, 1968], No. 25570/68. Heading B8H. A load engaging device has resilient fingers 11 which are held inwards by a movable ring 19 in a position in which they can be pushed over a flange 21 on a load object. To release the load it is set down and the ring is raised from the shoulder 18 so that the resilience of the fingers moves hooked ends 16 from under the flanges 21. The hooks may face outwards to engage inwardly facing flanges. The ring 19 may be captive on the device and may be raised by means of a screw thread. Alternatively, the ring may be held in the inoperative position by a bayonet fitting.
