Abstract

1,199,714. Seals. RIV-SKF OFFICINE DI VILLAR PEROSA S.p.A. 13 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 7894/69. Heading F2B. A seal for an anti-friction bearing or a shaft is made of plastics material and provided at one periphery with at least one tapered lip 5 which is resiliently deformed upon assembly in its operative position and permanently deformed by frictional heating during initial relative rotation. The heat causes melting and deformation of the lip until a permanent set and a clearance is obtained, Fig. 3 (not shown). The seal; may be provided with one or two lips or made in two parts each having a lip, Fig. 4 (not shown).
