Abstract
1,199,366. Diazonium compounds. KALLE A.G. 1 May, 1968 [3 May, 1967], No. 20654/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] Diazonium compounds of formula wherein R 1 is benzyl, R 2 is hydrogen, R 4 is methyl, R 5 is chlorine, n is 2 to 4, X is an anion and R 3 is chlorine, bromine, acetoxy, trifluoroacetoxy, methoxy or methylsulphoxy are prepared by (i) either reacting 4-chloro-2-nitrophenol with (#-bromoethyl)-methyl ether or reacting 2,5-dichloronitrobenzene with glycolmonomethyl ether to obtain 4-chloro-2-nitrophenyl-(#-methoxy ethyl ether); (ii) reducing this ether with hydrogen using a nickel catalyst to obtain the 2-amino compound; (iii) reacting the amine with benzoyl chloride to obtain 4-chloro- 2-benzylamino-phenyl (#-methoxyethyl)-ether; (iv) reacting the ether with ethylene oxide under pressure in a nitrogen atmosphere to obtain 4 - chloro - 2 - (N - benzyl - N - # - hydroxyl - ethyl) aminophenyl-(#-methoxyethyl) ether; (v) either reacting this ether with phosphorus tribromide or trichloride, nitrating the product in para position to the amino group and reducing and diazotizing the nitro group, or nitrating the ether in the para position to the amino group, reacting with the appropriate acyl anhydride and then reducing and diazotizing to produce the desired diazonium compound.
