Spindle apparatus.-A device for use in connexion with the repairing, setting, and inspection of the spindles and their appurtenances of spinning, twisting, doubling, and like machines comprises a magnifying glass provided with means for effecting the necessary adjustment of its position The magnifying glass a is carried by a nut a' on a screwed spindle b<1> passing through a block b carried by a rod c supported in bearings c' on a cross-piece c<2>. The height of the glass is adjusted by turning the spindle b<1> and the glass can be swivelled about the spindle by the adjustment of a rod b<5> which passes through a guide b<4> carried by the nut a<1> and is supported by a clawed part b<6> adjustable upon the block b by a screw b<7>. The cross-piece c<2> supported on a frame d secured by a nut d<1> to a vertical piece c carried by a table f having supports f<1>, f<2> which rest on the bottom rollers A. The upright e also carries a part g to which is adjustably secured a plate h one end h<1> of which passes over the thread guide rod k. The part g is hinged at g<1>, so that the plate h may be swung up out of the way to pass the brackets k<1> supporting the rod k. A rod h<2> projects under the rod k and can be withdrawn against the action of a spring h<5> when the plate is to be moved past a bracket k<1>. A screw h<7> adjusts the plate h on the part g and a screw m adjusts the cross-piece on the frame d, which may be in two parts separately adjusted upon the upright e by screws d<4>. A screw n adjusts the part g upon the upright e. A spirit level may be provided. The device may be arranged to be supported by and moved over the single line of bottom rcllers of a doubling or twisting frame.
