Abstract

1,198,716. Rotary positive-displacement pumps. TOYODA MACHINE WORKS Ltd. Dec. 14, 1967 [Dec. 17, 1966], No.56965/67. Heading F1F. In a rotary positive-displacement pump spring- loaded abutments 23 in a fixed casing-member 20 engage with the periphery of a rotor 30 including surfaces R 1 , R 2 and C 1 , C 2 of uniform and non- uniform radii, respectively, working fluid being drawn by the rotor from a reservoir 40 through a channel 34 in a driving shaft 31 and recess 33 in the rotor and discharged to a port 70 through another recess 35 and channels 36, 43, 44. The rate of flow of outgoing fluid is regulated by a spool valve-member 51 controlling a port 60 that communicates with the reservoir, the valve-member being responsive to the pressure difference across an orifice 53. Excessive pressure at the port 70 moves a valve-member 61 so as to increase the pressure difference across the valve-member 51 and thereby increase the flow of fluid back to the reservoir. Discs 12, 13 abutting the ends of the rotor and the member 20 are pressure loaded. An aperture 23s on the leading side of each abutment gives fluid access the under-side of the abutment. A second embodiment, Figs. 8 to 10 (not shown), differs chiefly in that the flow of outgoing fluid is regulated by a centrifugal by-pass valvemember (152) in the rotor. Pressure at a delivery port (141) is controlled by a spring-loaded valve member (160). In a third embodiment, Figs. 12 and 13 (not shown), there are no means for controlling the outgoing fluid and the channel 34 is replaced by a channel (183) in the rotor. A channel (187) for the outgoing fluid is also provided in the rotor.
