Abstract

Water containing dissolved oxygen is treated in order to remove dissolved organic compounds by passing it through a bed containing supported or unsupported manganese dioxide under conditions that substantially no dissolution of manganese takes place. A soluble oxidizing agent e.g. chlorine or hypochlorite, may be added to the water before contact with manganese dioxide.
