Abstract

1,198,434. Lactams. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 27 Nov., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967; 15 Aug., 1968], Nos. 38973/68 and 42696/68. Divided out of 1,198,432. Heading C2C. In a process for the production of lactams by catalytically cleaving compounds of formula where X and X<SP>1</SP> are aliphatic divalent radicals, in the liquid phase, the majority of the cycloalkanone coproduct is removed continuously by distillation from the mixture undergoing cleavage. The cleavage reaction may be effected by methods disclosed in Specifications 1,198,429, 1,198,427 and 1,198,430. Examples prepare caprolactam (plus cyclohexanone).
