[Also in Division B3] A press tool has at least three die members co-operable on actuation of the tool to define a die space for receiving and compressing a workpiece, the die members each having a die face for defining part of the periphery of the die space, two of the die members being movably mounted on a common carrier for limited relative movement between a closed position in which the die faces of the two die members are disposed in continuous relation with opposed side faces of the die members in abutting relation and an open condition by a spring biased between the carrier and a portion of each die member spaced from the respective die face. Jaw members 39 are formed with pins 42 which engage elongated slots 49 in respective die members 45 for sliding movement of the dies along side walls 41. The dies 45 are biased towards the open side of the recess 40 by springs 44 seated in aperture 43 and the movement of the dies is limited by engagement of the pins 42 with the ends of the slots 49. The dies 45 slide along the surfaces 41 and ribs 51a as the jaw members are closed together until a circular section die cavity is defined. The work piece is compressed and parts of the workpiece are extruded into V-grooves formed by chambers 47. In another embodiment tool handles 54 are closed together so as to close jaw members 61 by pivoted movement about respective pivots 62 as the plunger 63 is driven between the jaws towards die surfaces 74 of the jaws. Dies 71 are biased by springs to rotate oppositely about a pivot 73 such that as the jaws move towards a position of abutment of surfaces 61b, the die surfaces 74 engage with a workpiece and the jaws 61 engage with the outer sides of the dies 71. This effects a pivotal movement of the die 71 about the pivot 73 to close the die surfaces 74 to a semi-circular configuration so as to compress the workpiece and extrude parts of the work piece into V-grooves formed by chamfers at the ends of the die surfaces 74.
