Abstract

1,197,538. Crimping yarn, tension device. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 30 Oct., 1968, No. 51528/68. Headings D1F and D1D. A crimped yarn is made by drafting a tow of synthetic fibrous material, discharging the material into a heated stuffing and crimping zone to form primary and secondary crimps, passing the heat-set material through a reserve zone to cool it, re-drafting the material in an amount of up to 200% and finally twisting the re-drafted material to produce a yarn. As shown, a bundle of multifilaments or fibres is passed from package 11 (or direct from a spinning machine) to feed rollers 13, 14 and 15 then to a stretch-break zone containing guide 60 and break roller 16. The filament bundle then passed to a first drafting zone in apron band 21, 22 and an after-drafting zone between rollers 26, 27 and 28, 29. The drafted and cut filament bundle is then fed to the heated stuffer box 31 to form the primary and secondary crimps. The crimped fibres are cooled in chute 37 and then passed through decrimper 39. The decrimper comprises a set of parallel bars 48 through which the yarn passes in a zig-zag manner. The yarn is tensioned by a pivotally mounted guide (42) which deflects the yarn from its path of travel if the yarn becomes slack when a yarn tangle is detangled at a guide (41), see Figs. 4 and 5 not shown. The yarn is then after-drafted by rollers 47, 48 and wound on ring-spinner 52. In a modified arrangement the filament bundle is fed directly from the package to drafting aprons.
