[Also in Division G3] The power of a fixed displacement hydraulic motor is measured by feeding a current generated by a tachogenerator coupled to the motor shaft to a resistance whose value varies with the pressure difference between the fluid inlet and outlet of the motor, and measuring the voltage across the resistance. The resistance is a mechanically variable resistor, or strain gauges, connected in a temperature compensated bridge network. The voltage output from the bridge may be used to control the fluid input pressure via a variable displacement hydraulic pump to keep the power constant. For a variable displacement hydraulic motor, a further variable resistor is connected in parallel with the above resistor, whose value is adjusted in dependence on the displacement of the motor.
