Abstract

1,196,740. Counting-apparatus. DRIVER SOUTHALL Ltd. 25 Oct., 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 48205/66. Heading G4D. [Also in Division G1] In a detector arrangement for counter in which the articles are sensed photo-electrically, the photo-cell gives an analogue output proportional to the sensed area of each article, and an output pulse is produced if this area exceeds a given area. As shown light from a lamp 10 passes through a bi-convex condensing lens and is collimated into a broad uniform beam in a counting zone 14 by a plano-convex lens 12. The beam leaving the counting zone is focused on to a vacuum photo-cell 15 by a plano-convex lens 13. Thus the height of the output pulse from the photo-cell is proportional to the area of the article sensed. This pulse is differentiated by a capacitor to produce two oppositely poled pulses one of which is removed by a diode shunt to ground. The remaining one triggers a Schmitt Trigger to give a standard pulse output which is fed to a counter. A plurality of such arrangements may be located along mutually orthoganal axes such that plane articles are sensed by at least one arrangement.
